Brainstorming

Hi again,

Now that you've introduced yourself, feel free to post ideas here.

I believe that better guild background and theme ideas are general so as not to overly restrict RP, but feel free to post any ideas that come to mind.

For now, let's limit comment on the ideas of others, I'd like to see as many ideas presented as possible.  Later we will begin to prune the ideas and home in on what we end up doing.

I have some ideas of my own but I will not present them until others have had a chance.  And I want to be clear, my ideas will not carry any special weight, when the time comes they will be judged with all ideas presented.

Okay, bring out your ideas! Very Happy
Blandus

possible idea (VERY BROAD VERSION)

Okay this is just quick off the top of my head. Work in progress if you will. WHat if like we where (somewhere) and (for whatever reason) we get captured and forced into slavery from the harsh rule of the undead. So after (so many years) we (somehow) escape and now we have a hate for the Horde but a special hatred of the undead.

() = will be edited with more detail soon.
Monteroy

Howdy again,

The first idea that comes to mind is a crime syndicate.  Of course that idea has been done to death and I've recently watched the Godfather, so my mind might not be entirely my own.

Another might be a revolutionary group.  Of course this could run into a few issues regarding multiple races.

Yet another could be a religious movement.  Which would leave quite a few doors open in terms of morality, zealotry and overall goal of the faith.

As I said in my introduction post, my mind is a tad jumbled at the moment so these three might not be the most creative I've come up with.
Blandus

Lyssira you said you had a few ideas. I completly understand you wanting to wait but can I ask to hear just one of them?
Orabelle

Great ideas so far everyone!

Lets see - I don't have any specific ideas right now, but I can say that I'd like if we could be darker/ evil. There have been far too many attempts at making villains on Moon Guard, and almost all of them have ended in failure. Its truly difficult to make a realistic villain, but I think we have the talent to pull it off.

In fact, there have been several recent topics about villainy on the forums. People have been asking about the 'evil' guilds, and sadly, there were really only two mentioned. Now I don't know about you guys, but Azeroth needs some more villains, don't you think?
Lyssira

Yes, great ideas so far!  Let's keep them coming!

One of my ideas?  Okay, I'll throw one out now since a number of good ones have already been shared.  This is actually an adaptation of an idea I became aware of that is being developed on another server, only theirs was a Night Elf exclusive group.

The thought was that there is a need for a group of Light followers to do the "dirty work" for the leadership of the Cathedral of Stormwind.  The members of this "hit squad" are engaged to perform those tasks that are deemed necessary but which the High Priests wish their offices not to be involved.

When not so engaged they would perform their work in the open, ridding the land of the taint of undead and horde alike.
Monteroy

I think I agree with Orabelle concerning a darker theme.  Though I think a blatantly evil group might not be the best approach.  Personally, I prefer a shade of gray.
Evern

I'd prefer something a shade of grey, just because nobody that's doing evil things, thinks of themselves as evil.  And I don't really like the goody two shoes thing.
Lyssira

If I may promote my idea a bit further and attempt to tie it in to some others that have been mentioned.

A church sponsored "hit squad" could easily support a variety of characters.  A goodie-two-shoes that sees the need to efficiently and quietly dispose of certain tasks would be at home there, as would a more evil character that wanted to operate under the auspices of the church, thus giving them a more respectable "cover" and deniability should the need arise.
Lyssira

Another of our poster, Eto, posted the following on the "To Guild Or Not To Guild" thread:

Posted: Tue Apr 29, 2008 6:44 am    Post subject: An honest opinion for a guild ..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the premise will be defined as those that choose to do this come forward.  It is possible for those that intend to play as chief characters in the days ahead to call themselves by a name, and even cloth themselves in matching tabards if the guild is something that should be identified with by others.  But for every player who sees the need to join such a guild, there may be players who won't agree with everything the guild represents, or feel as though they can operate more effectively with regular contact only, but having that "license" to operate outside it's boundaries without worrying about leaving companions behind.  Lone wolves, or recluse characters, is what I mean.

I don't believe the notion of what your guild goals are should step on your character storylines.  Like was mentioned on the forums, we should just roll with whatever comes our way, and respond as our characters would respond to certain situations.  If that means that we must fight to secure Westfall from the Defias bandits for a few weeks, then so be it.  The more important thing to recognize within one another is that once a task is done, it's done.  Don't get caught in the "respawn" trap!

The undead scourge is a great cross-realm/level/faction story arc.  But our characters should uncover this threat as a natural progression, through bits and pieces, and unless you make it a core part of your backstories, others shouldn't know about such a threat until they are directly informed of it.

Right off the bat, I'm looking at Stormwind being a prime place to meet one another.  Sounds as though most of us are rerolling characters, and the city acts as a central hub to begin with.  I suggest meeting there, feeling one another out, and letting the story flow from there.

I find that I can't disagree with any of what Eto says, and it made me think.

Extending Eto's thoughts a bit, how would it be if we just began meeting IC and seeing where these meetings lead.  At first the meetings may be sporadic, but with time we will be meeting more often as a group and the group will grow.  At some point we will decide on a direction and possibly also on the need to identify ourselves as a group.

For those who have expressed ideas here (or would like to) maybe we just express them ingame and see which ones our characters are attracted to and then move in that direction.

Maybe someone who wants to see a dark theme in our group will represent herself as carrying out clandestine missions, another might be working under cover for some organization.  Still another may want to form a group of assassins, or whatever.

I would have wanted to make these decisions OOC, but what would be more natural and immersive than to do all of that IC?

What do you all think of this?  Good idea?  Awful?
Monteroy

I think that is a great idea!
felandria

Personally I think that we should avoid choosing a certain group to combat such as the undead, the reason being that it could restrict us quite a bit. For example we won't really have much to do in Outland unless we redo our story.

I'd love to do an evil themed group, it seems like a really great idea whether it's as a overzealous crusade or cult of warlocks.

Here are a few idea

-Random adventurers theme, not sure how this would work, but it sounds like a nice option to me for some reason, just a bunch of adventurers with diverse backgrounds

-Explorers theme, something along the lines of Indiana Jones, if we're not expecting a bunch of people this one could work great, also great for doing instances, as pretty much each intance in the game could be a target for such explorers

-Crime family, pretty selfexplanitory

-An evil themed cult, this could be prettymuch anything, tied for my favorite idea with the crusaders, i'd love to be evil  Twisted Evil

-Insane zealous crusaders, something like the Scarlet Crusade, except maybe more extreme, this idea sounds great, we could also go anywhere with this, as you can pretty much find a faction everywhere to hate

EDIT: That sounds like a great idea, however it might be tough to go with one theme if we all make different characters, i.e. three people make crusader type paladin characters and one makes a warlock. The warlock really won't fit in with the others, and sticks out.
Gordonov Andreus

"I love the idea of a church "hit squad", you could really be pretty good or evil with that idea."
Brenry

My Horde side RP guild is a crime syndicate, but I don't want to do that again.
I think the religious zealotry style guild would be nice for a change. Even the church hit men would be cool for me.
Tatum

I love the idea of figuring things out in game.

The only thing I'm afraid of... is not having a common need for each other. If that makes sense? I mean, it's ok if that does happen. Conflict is always good, but it helps to have something to force the conflict to resolve.
Orabelle

I really like the Church 'hitman' type squad. That seems the perfect place to meld both good-minded and evil-minded people under the same cause, which will no doubt stimulate some great RP conflict among us as well!
Balatrix

Ill just throw it out there but since WOLK is coming soon I think a light or anti undead guild could be very fun and have a lot of rp potential in the future
Evern

How about a Mercenary band?

just my 2c
Lyssira

Would this be a stretch?

If we decided to go with the proposal, "Church Hit Squad" (http://moonguardfirp.myfreeforum.org/about12.html) some (or all) of the members could be mercenaries as well.  In fact, there could easily be members who are not part of the hit squad but mercenaries only.  Hit squad members could even share missions with those they trust.  Also, mercenaries would bring outside RP to the group as well.

Reasonable?
Evern

Indeed =D  My only problem with that was the potiential that only "religious" characters would be allowed.
Lyssira

I see your concern.  However, my thinking is that even *if* only religious characters were allowed, a tryly devious sort would be able to feign adherence to the faith in order to have a respectable cover for his activities.  Hehe!
Evern

Heh, guess I'm just not that devious...
Balatrix

One thing though about the whole mercenery/ hitman thing is that creating a story could be hard and may not go to deep
Lyssira

Hi Balatrix, and welcome!

If I am misunderstandig you, I am sorry, but I think that not creating a deep story is the point.

It is my intention to provide only a very loose framework with lots of slack so that a wide variety of characters may participate.  As far as story is concerned, each of us, whenver we log in and play our FIRP character, will be writing another chapter in the story of our "group".

And if I have misunderstood you, please help me out and restate your thoughts.  Thanks!
Evern

Yes, but the deepness doesn't have to be in the guilds storyline, just the characters.  Think blizz has a deep root?
Lyssira

Exactly, Evern!
Bargur

Couldn't we just be special forces of the Argent Dawn? With Wrath, we could expand the story by a lot. Also, people are complaining that if we went to Outland, we would have no purpose being there. But the Argent Dawn have made an offensive at the Dark Portal before. We could just be the away team that continues that progress. We could even go to the Raven Hill place in Darkshire for more RP.
Brenry

Good idea. I wasn't there when the AD were defending Azeroth at the Dark Portal (cause I was only lvl 50 at the time), and I like the idea a lot. It gives Brenry more things to kill!  Twisted Evil

Yay! I r smart!

I'm not trying to be critical of your idea, but I honestly don't see much difference between being special forces of the argent dawn and special forces of the church, or, more accurately, special forces of the shadowy figure who leads the group.

Does the church have an interest in the goings on in Outland, I think yes.  Therefore, we would have a purpose in being there.

As for the complaint that we would have nothing to do in Outland, that was with regard to a hypothetical group taht was too narrowly focused.  I believe that we have avoided that pitfall of too narrow focus with our group as it has been proposed.
felandria

I personally dislike the Argent Dawn, its hard to explain, but it just seems rather forced to me. I think we should go with being the Church hitgroup, I really like the idea.

Also Outland has tons of demons so I doubt we would be hard pressed to find a purpose.
Brenry

http://www.wowwiki.com/Father_Inigo_Montoy

This guy could be the shadowy figure behind the group. Just read the bottom part of the link.
Lyssira

Thanks for the link Brenry, that would be a possibility.  However, I am currently pursuing another avenue, which, if it works out as I hope will be a nice surprise as well as one (I feel) we can all be happy with.

Stay tuned.   Wink
Kataryn

A question.

Now my concern is how are we all going to meet in game? I mean for humans and dwaves and gnomes they are all next to each other, where night elves are completely isolated on the other side, I"m thinking of how to get a nelf out there.

Also the Church Hit Squad, the light of the Eastern Kingdom is different than the Elune of Kaldorei, or the Naaru of Draenei. Each has a different enemy, Light is Scourge, Elune and Naaru are more focused on the Legion. Also the Night Elves have a second religion, Druidism. Sure they all are against the Scourge but it isnt as important as killing the Sindorei or the Legion or the Orcs for killing thier Demigod.

Hehe also I cheat Wink I am the Game Master for the World of Warcraft D20. If you can download it its a great resource, it helped me enchance my role playing too since I know a bit more background on the world.
Lyssira

Kataryn,

Would it help if I tossed out a couple of events that Kay may have heard of?  Perhaps they drew her to the Eastern Kingdoms, if for no other reason than her own curiousity.  Once there, Kat can participate in the hit squad if that fits her character, but it is by no means a requirement.

I have not emphasized this point greatly but, this site exists first and formost to enhance RP, and if people are wanting to learn more about FIRP, to provide a place to do that too as well as provide discussion on the same.  Secondarily, there is the hit squad group which anyone may choose to participate in, or not.  In no way do I want this to be an exclusive group where you must join up to play.

Besides being a hit squad member Kat may develop a friendship with another participant here, or may decide to investigate a rumor she heard about, or get into the story that Eto has started, or, and there is nothing wrong with this one either, start your own.

Whatever you do, you are welcome here and welcome as part of the group in whatever capacity works for your character.
Xaiden

Xaiden is already involved in a mercenary type group, and he really doesn't like the church very much.  Very Happy

Just here for RP connections Smile

Feel free to approach him anytime...

Met Kat last night, also Brother Eto witnessed Xaiden mis treating and orphan heh
Brenry

Saw a very useful thread in the WoW forums.

Most of the people on this forum don't reply anymore and it makes me a sad pandaren to see such a waste. Lyssira and I are the only ones with a lot of posts...I see 12 people that have signed up that haven't posted once.
Bimo

I have posted, usually under Bargur. But I have exams and I probably won't be in game until school is over.
